Why a Villa Beats a Hotel for an Easter Week

An Easter trip is rarely two people. It is grandparents, parents and children, or three couples and their kids, or a group of old friends who have finally lined up a week. In a hotel that group is spread across a corridor, eats on the restaurant schedule and shares the pool with everyone else in the building. In a private villa it has one table, one pool and one team of staff who learn within a day who eats early and who wants coffee at six.

Every home we list in Marrakech comes with staff, nine of the ten list 24-hour security, and most sit inside gated golf communities or on private estates along the Fes Road corridor. That combination is what makes the week relaxed for parents: children can move between the pool, the garden and the terrace without anyone watching a hotel door, and the adults can have dinner at home without booking a table. Ask about a private chef, because in-villa meals are what most groups end up loving about the week.

A villa also changes how you use the city. Instead of heading out every morning because the room is small, you choose one or two outings a day and come back to the house for lunch or for the afternoon. The medina and the souks, Jemaa el-Fnaa at dusk and the Jardin Majorelle are the obvious first visits.
